How to get to Camp Wildside

You do not have to drive to the Pilanesberg. Most families don't. A chartered coach leaves Sandton with our counsellors on board, we collect at Lanseria airport, or you bring them yourself - roughly two hours from Johannesburg or Pretoria.

Three ways to get here

Getting them
there and back

Pick whichever suits your family. The coach and the airport collection are booked with the camp and charged separately from the camp fee. Dropping them off yourself costs nothing but petrol.

Option one

The Sandton bus

A chartered coach leaves Sandton with our counsellors on board, and brings them back. Camp starts the moment they get on and ends when they climb off again. Book a seat when you book the camp. Charged separately.

Option two

Fly to Lanseria

Flying in from elsewhere in the country? Land at Lanseria and we'll meet your child at the airport and bring them safely to camp. Charged separately - give us the flight details when you book.

Option three

Drop them yourself

Sundown Country Estate, R565, Rustenburg. Roughly two hours from Johannesburg or Pretoria, and the drive in is half the excitement. The address and map link are below.

Not included in the camp fee: the Sandton coach and Lanseria collection are optional and priced separately - ask us when you book. The same goes for the Pilanesberg Big 5 game drive and the Sun City day trip.

Drop-off and collection

Arrival and
departure

Exact drop-off and collection times come with your booking confirmation. As a guide, camps usually begin mid-afternoon on arrival day and end mid-morning on departure day.

Arrival day

If you're driving them yourself, your confirmation tells you when to arrive. Phones and valuables are collected and locked away, counsellors check the day bag, and before anyone goes near the water every camper does the three-part swim test; a child who cannot swim well enough by our standards wears a life jacket we provide at every water activity. If your child is on the Sandton coach or being collected from Lanseria, all of that happens when they arrive with our counsellors.

Departure day

Valuables are handed back at departure. Coach departure times from Sandton and Lanseria collection times are confirmed with your booking.

What to bring on the day

The day bag
is compulsory

It gets checked by counsellors, not just handed out. Sunscreen, a refillable water bottle and a hat live in it.

Any medication comes clearly labelled with your child's name.

Leave at home

Nothing valuable. Phones and valuables are collected and locked on arrival, and returned at departure.

How does my child get to camp?
Three ways:
  • A chartered bus from Sandton, with our counsellors on board for the trip.
  • Fly into Lanseria and we'll meet your child and bring them to camp.
  • Drop them off yourself at Sundown Country Estate on the R565.
The bus and airport collection are charged separately from the camp fee.
What should my child pack?
A day bag is compulsory and gets checked by counsellors - sunscreen, a refillable water bottle and a hat live in it.
  • Clothes for hot days and cold evenings, plus more than you think for water days
  • Two swimming costumes, a towel and closed shoes that can get wet
  • Closed walking shoes, a warm top and a raincoat
  • Toiletries, any medication clearly labelled, and a torch
  • Nothing valuable - phones and valuables are collected and locked on arrival, and returned at departure
When are the December 2026 camps and what do they cost?
